DT4A at Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week

We are excited to announce that the upcoming Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week, scheduled from 4–9 September 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya, will feature participation the WRI through the DT4A initiative, alongside esteemed partners. These highly anticipated events, championed by HE President Ruto, will play a pivotal role in amplifying Africa’s collective voice on climate solutions. They serve as crucial platforms to prepare African nations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in November and the first global stock take, which evaluates progress toward the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement.

WRI, in partnership with the Agence Française de Développement (AfD), in collaboration with key partners including the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLOCAT), The World Bank, Global Network for Popular Transportation (GNPT), Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), and the Climate Champions Team, will be actively engaged in the Africa Climate Week (ACW) event. We will be hosting an event titled “Connecting Informal Transport to the Climate Agenda” on September 7, 2023, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The primary objective of this event is to raise awareness regarding the climate impact of informal transport and underscore its significance in achieving emissions reduction targets based on insights from a recent study completed by WRI and Volvo Research and Educational Foundation (VREF). Our focus will be on enhancing ambition in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), exploring innovative technologies and solutions within the informal transport sector, and identifying new opportunities for sustainable development. We eagerly anticipate a fruitful and impactful presence at this event, and we extend an invitation to all interested participants to join us in shaping the future of climate action in Africa.
