DT4A Repository Receives GTFS Dataset from Stellenbosch

We are excited to announce that the DT4A recently acquired a General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) dataset from the city of Stellenbosch in South Africa. The data was collected by GoMetro with funding from the DT4A Innovation Challenge. 

This dataset played a crucial role in assessing the feasibility of transitioning South African minibus taxis to electric vehicles. The set contains operational data from approximately 10 minibus taxis operating in Stellenbosch, covering a span of 30 operating days. The data was collected over a 10-day period spanning from March 8 to March 18, 2023. We are confident that this dataset will greatly benefit researchers and urban planners in their efforts to decarbonize the minibus taxi industry. By utilizing this data, we can take a significant step toward electrifying the minibus taxis industry in South Africa and apply what we learn to other informal transit networks around the world.
