DT4A at The National Symposium On Road Safety 2022 – Kampala, Uganda

Orgnaised by Makerere University School of Public Health (Trauma, Injury and Disability Research Unit), The National Symposium On Road Safety 2022 took place on 4th and 5th August 2022 with a theme of “Safe and Inclusive Public Transport”.

The WRI Africa team participated at the symposium and introduced WRI and the DT4A project. The team briefly discussed concepts of public transport accessibility and did demonstrations on the first version of the Kampala Public Transit Accessibility Footprint web application. The web application was developed based on accessibility analysis conducted with Conveyal accessibility mapping tool with a GTFS dataset obtained from the DT4A data repository and ancillary datasets from KCCA and WorldPop.

The interactive web app contains layers for transit routes and stops and accessibility maps for different opportunity layers including schools, health facilities, market places and major buildings. In addition to the accessibility maps, the app also contains layers for the income groups and an origin-destination map generated based on a pilot data collection project conducted by WRI from August to September 2021.

The web application (embedded below) is still going through some improvements and the DT4A has plans to officially launch it in few months.
